    Basic charting NT7

    Hello

First of all thank you for finally releasing NT7, I look forward to learn how all the new features work.

After 30 min of testing NT7 I actually find it more time consuming to draw chart after chart ( first one instrument, then the next and so one) than I did in NT6.5. Since this probably cannot be I am likely missing something.

What is the fastest way to do the following:

Draw a chart with my default template, default number of days and so on? In NT6.5 I could save my default settings and then all charts I did looked 6000 days back, but I don't get that to work now. When I switch to a new instrument I should be able to do this with only one click, or...? The default instrument list gets a bit messy if you add 200 instruments or so, it would be "better" if one could add folders that then each contains 50 instrumenst or so (if I don't want to mix markets, largecap, midcap for instance).

    Thank you.

    Hello Precisely,

Could you please post future NinjaTrader 7 inquiries in the NinjaTrader 7 section of the support forum.

You can set Data Series settings to default as per the period type that is selected in the Data Series window. Once you setup the Data Series window to your liking, right click in the parameters section of the window and select 'Set Default For XXXX Period Type'. The same settings will appear when you select the same period type in subsequent Data Series windows.

Changing instruments is possible via the drop down default instrument list or via the Data Series window.

In addition, you can quickly switch instruments as follows:

Enhanced Command Line Driven Chart Changing
Currently, you can directly type a new instrument symbol in a chart to change the data series. We have enhanced this by providing command line access to change the interval also.

    For example:

    - Type "3m" to change to a 3 minute chart
    - Type "3m MSFT" to change to MSFT 3 minute chart

Thank you. OK, I'll keep to NT7 threads after this one. It's a great function to be able to quickly type an instrument and get a chart. And good job on the market analyzer, works very well now.

      Two thins though:

Still have a problem in getting the default to be daily values. I've tried what you suggested above which worked fine for all other variables but not for daily values - it uses min for some reason. And if I don't remember incorrectly wasn't the "annoying" question of "save deafult template/workspace" when I shut NT7 down suppose to go away in NT7? It is also impossible to get NT 6.5/NT7 to use daily values when I use send to chart from the market analyzer, which is a bug in my opinion (when you go through 100+ instruments that is "unfunny".

Again thanks for the many improvements!

        Hi Precisely,

1.) "Still have a problem in getting the default to be daily values. I've tried what you suggested above which worked fine for all other variables but not for daily values - it uses min for some reason."

On my end, this is functioning as expected - the saved value is retained. Please set the default again and let me know if the change is still not kept.

2.) " And if I don't remember incorrectly wasn't the "annoying" question of "save deafult template/workspace" when I shut NT7 down suppose to go away in NT7?"

I know of no plans, previous or current, to remove the feature that asks if you would like to save your workspace on shut down.

3.) "t is also impossible to get NT 6.5/NT7 to use daily values when I use send to chart from the market analyzer, which is a bug in my opinion (when you go through 100+ instruments that is "unfunny"."

I will forward you feedback on this on to my development team for further consideration.

          OK. Thank you.

I've tried it a couple of more times just now, but just can't get it to work. The exact steps I take, in order:

          1. File\New Chart
          2. Double click on an instrument
          3. Right click on Period Type and choose "default" for daily.
          4. When the chart looks like I want, save the template as default
          5. Shut down NT and choose save workspace/template as default

When I then start NT again and select my template to run a chart on, it still doesn't work...It remebers my number of days back, the width of the bars and so on, but not to use daily values instead of minutes. Any ideas?

            Hi Precisely,

Right clicking on the interval and selecting 'Set default for X period type' will save the value used only.

For example, if I set the box to Daily - 10, then right click and select 'Set default value for daily period type', I am selecting to use 10 as the default value when I select daily as my interval.

You will still need to select the interval you wish to use when creating the chart.

              I see Kyle.

But, the thing is that in NT 6.5 I believe that maybe saving my template as default took care of that problem (that I wanted daily values as default and not minutes). In NT 7.5 I don't get that to work, so that has to be a bug, or? It should definitely be possible to use that as default. And besides, it is possible to right click on type and choose "set as default". If that shouldn't be possible maybe it's better to remove that feature to not confuse people?

                Hello Precisely,

You can save all settings in the Data Series window as described in post #2.

So you will need to setup your settings in the Data Series window to your liking while 'Type' is set to 'Day'. Once finished setting up the Data Series window, right click and select "Set Default For 'Day' Period Type".

Chart templates will still save applied indicators and chart properties menu settings as in version 6.5. Chart templates will not save Data Series settings - this is as expected.

                  Hi Jason,

Yes, well I've done that 50 times now. The thing is that if I start NT and choose file\new chart and double click on an instrument the settings show something completely different from what it then uses when it draws the chart (if I don't change anything and let it use the default settings). For instance, my default settings is set to 1 bar width, but 3 is shown. Number of days is set to 6000, but 5 days is shown. But when the chart is created 6000 and 1 is used, except for interval where min is used instead of days, which I have tried to set as default 50 times now using the description you mentioned. Well, life is short so I give up - guess I can live with that the first time I start upp NT I have to switch to days (if I use the default instrument list all subsequent charts will be correct). Thanks for the help.
