Connect causes application to Hang

I have set up a Google and Yahoo connection and on connecting via the file->Connect->"Connection Name" the application hangs untill I terminate the process in task manager. I am running with Windows 7 Ultimate

To clarify, this occurs regardless of which connection you choose?

Yes regardless of whether I choose the yahoo or google connections that I created. Have turned off windows firewall but didn't solve the problem. I have been successfully connecting (to yahoo) using version 6.5
