problem with Connect to Interactive Brokers

    Hi All,

I am running NT7 connected to the IB TWS.

There is a problem with the connect sequence when NT7 is started before IB TWS is started. If I use the connect command inside of NT7 it attempts to automatically start the IB TWS and feeds it the username and password.

TWS does start but the login screen has the username and the password exposed and concatinated into the username field. The login then fails as you'd expect but more importantly, the password is shown in plain text.

If you subsequently enter the login information in the correct manner, then attempt to reconnect, the login attempt times out and automatically restarts the login sequence again. The only way to recover is to kill NT7, complete the login connect sequence for TWS then restart NT7 and simply connect.

This issue has been compounded recently since IB implemented additional security protection where users need to enter additional codes from a security card. This card system is somewhat clumsy as you need to read two sets of numbers from the screen then enter codes from a plastic card before continuing. Your login sequence does not allow sufficient time to do this before restarting the login sequence.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hello Paul,

When you state 'connect command' do you refer to the 'Connect on startup' option or you refer to File-->Connect-->*connection name*?

I do not experience any issues when I connect to IB via File-->Connect.

Can you please tell me what TWS version you have installed.

Actually, I haven't tested both methods, only "File-->Connect-->Interactive Brokers" .

BTW, I have a trading friend running NT6.5 and he also experiences the same issue.

Can you please tell me what TWS version you have installed.

Can you please install TWS version 900 as per the IB connection guide at the link below.

Check if the issue persists using this version of TWS. Once you installed the supported TWS version, please remove your current IB connection in NinjaTrader.

Make sure the TWS API options are setup correctly and subsequently create a new connection in NinjaTrader.

Subsequently check if the connection issue persists.

          Hi Jason,

I've just installed TWS 900 then reconfigured both it and created a new Account connection as per your request. I see no change to the login process and the password is still concatinated into the username field as before.

          Regards,

          Paul

            Hello Paul,

The username and password are entered in their correct fields when I test it on my end.

When you go to File-->Connect and select the IB connection, please do not perform any actions on your PC and check if the issue persists.

Do you have 'Auto logon' enabled in the connection?

              pbcah,

When you press connect, please be sure you are not clicking your mouse elsewhere while it is in the connect process because sometimes such an action would inadvertently steal focus away from the username/pw fields while it is filling it in causing incorrect inputs of this information.
