Difficulty Getting Sim to connect to charts

Only reporting as an observation for developers... not sure it's a real issue or not.

Every now and then, I can't seem to get the sim to connect to charts .... I see the sim running in the main control panel, but nothing in the charts.

I looked at the logs, and there were a few references to there not being a start amt for certain symbols.

There was also a trace error of a disconnect at one point as well.

The really wierd thing is that I went into NT 6.5 later, and I had a similar experience. no amt set for certain indicators.

Coincedence that it can happen in both versions of NT? Or is there some crossover somewhere?

I changed the start amt in Instrument Manger, restarted NT, and seems to be working again.

Like I say, I'm only reporting as an observation.

    This is with NT B12

Matt, if you can reproduce this issue please let us know along with the steps necessary to reproduce it.

I'm not sure of the steps that lead up to it, but I just shut down my yahoo connection and started my sim, and I can see the bars running in the control center, but nothing in my charts .... dom is working just fine though.

Nothing in the logs to suggest a problem.

I've had the NS editor and charts open while writing indicators, but nothing too stressful on the system.

      Not sure what's going on.

        Matt,

This is likely because you have not set a start price for the instrument in the Instrument Manager. Please edit the instrument you want and put in a start price for it. Then reconnect to the Simulated Data Feed and it should work.

If it's as simple as that, then an enhancement (some would say mandatory), would be for NT to set a default value so that it will at least run, and not appear to error out to the customer. A warning message could be sent that a default value was used because no start sim value was set.

            tazatek,

It already automatically does it provided you connected to a real data provider and requested data for that instrument. When you do that it will automatically set the last known price as the start price for the sim feed.
