    Phantom Bars

Have you removed the phantom bars when using range bars in NT7? I get opening gaps now that I never used to get. Is there a way to avoid this?

    Thanks,

    Mpe

    Hello mpe66,

    Thank you for your post.

To show all 24 hours of data to avoid the gaps please right mouse click within your chart-->Data Series-->Session Templates--->Select either Default 24/5 for data Monday thru Friday or Default 24/7 for the entire week if provided.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

I have tried the different templates and don't think that is the problem. The opening gap each day used to be filled in by phantom bars and still is in NT6.5, but not in NT7. Even if I set session times to 12:00-13:00 for example I don't get any gaps in NT6.5 using range bars.

        Hello mpe66,

Are you referring to the indicator Alternative Range Bar Implementation (RangeAlt)?

No, I'm referring to the regular range bars.

Unfortunately this option is not available at this time within NinjaTrader 7 however, I will forward this to our development team for future considerations.

Any news on the solution of the phantom bars problem?

I am wondering if anything is in the works regarding phantom bars to fill gaps. It seems NT7 has completely dropped the ball on this compared to NT6.5.

Trading the FDAX (which usually has huge gaps between 4 PM EST Close and 2 AM EST electronic Open) with NT7 creates all kinds of quirks due to losing the advantage of the continuity of range bars; the same indicators give completely different signals in NT6.5 vs NT 7 !!! You have to wait tens of bars to trade the FDAX to avoid the artifacts created by the lack of phantom bars.

By the way, this happens for all price based types (Range Bars, AlternateRangeBars, "NoGapRange" Bars, Renko Bars, Kagi Bars, PointAndFigure, etc.) and Line Break and Volume Bars.

                Hello,

Unfortunately there is no update available at this time. Right now our priority is to get the Beta version of NinjaTrader 7 as stable as possible however I will let our development know of the inquiry for future considerations.

This method was implemented in NinjaTrader 7 so that each session would be looked at as an entirely new chart. This way when comparing charts to other platforms everything would be identical.

You may however create a custom template with a Start Day of Monday at 12:00 AM and an End Day of Sunday at 12:00 as seen in my attached screen shot. Keep in mind you will still experience a gap between Friday and Monday.

                  Not a solution

                  Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunately changing the session settings for the FDAX does not solve the problem, the gap is always there unless you fill it with phantom bars.
