    Win 7 / NT 7

    Hello All,

Some of you might have gathered that I had a very disappointing experience running NT 7(Beta 10) on Window 7 (64 bit).
The very supportive NT guys concluded that my there must be some sort of a conflict between NT 7 and what ever was running on my machine. The only s/w that I had istalled was NT7.

Based on this feed back I have returned my machine (which I had bought just 2 weeks ago). I now have to buy another computer.

I would appreciate any comments/ observations from any one who may have faced problems with NT 7 on 64-bit Window7.

    Thanks,
    Kumar

I have Win7 x64 bit PC custom built just to run Ninja 7 & have experienced problems when trying to run NT 7 x 32 bit particularly on startup.
Ninja Bertrand who was as helpful as possible in my case came to the conclusion that Net 3.5 was the problem & to uninstall and then reinstall a clean version, but the problem with that is Net 3.5 is embedded in the OS and can't be uninstalled. I have done a clean install of the OS more than once but to no avail.
Bertrand seemed to hope that MS would come up with a cure for the Net problem. I have tried Net 4.2 beta but again no difference.
All updates have given the exact same problem.
I can run the 64 bit version OK, but as I have Zenfire feed and will not change from that, this is no solution.
I am using NT 6.5.13 without any problems and will have to stay with this until and when ever Ninja finds a solution or gets to a 64 bit Zenfire which appears to be a long way off.
So summing up NT 7 is dead in the water for me at present.
    regards John

One point I missed is that I have two other PC's running Win7 x 32 bit and they run perfectly.
So to me there seems to be a conflict with the very latest Corei7 64 bit machines which mine is.

        Hello Kumar,

I run NT7 on Windows 7 32 bit Ultimate. As I use NT for trading mostly I do not see a need for a 64 bit OS. I understand that for for backtesting more than 2GB of memory addressable are helpful, =>64 bit OS.

My regular PC is a normal Shuttle SG33G5M with 2GB of memory.

For testing purposes I did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate with NT7 on second harddisk.

I did this for testing of my NinjaTrader addons in the 64bit environment.
All seems to run well and I could not find any problems.
Usually I pay a lot of attention to bugs/problems as you can see from my posts on this forum, but all seemed normal on the 64 bit Windows.

        Regards
        Andreas

          Kumar,

I run NT7 on Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. Everything works well (except beta bugs).

I think if this is clean win7 install and only NT was istalled, then it might have high probability that you have hw problem.

John, correct you ran into a bug documented for .NET 3.5 under Win7 64 - I'm running now .NET 4.2 beta on 64 bit and so far have not run into anything...

                Win 7 / NT 7

Thank you all for your responses.

My original problem with NT 7 on WIN 7 was that I did not get any trade execution sound alerts.
After doing a clean install of the 32-bit, I was even able to run NT6.5 without any problem.

The 32-bit OS is not a real option because it cuts memory to 4GB, I am already at 55% and since I trade equities too, I have to run another realtime trading application side by side.

I understand it is possible to run virtual XP on WIN 7, how well does that work if any one has tried that?

It is hard to believe that there could be h/w problem unique to my machine. Thus far Dell has provided excellent service, and I hesitate to dump them in favour of another vendor who may not be as accommodating should the problems persist.

                Oh well.

                Thanks for listening.
                Kumar

                  win 7 64 Bt beta 10

I have run all the beta's since 5 on my machine and had one small problem which required a clean install of Net 3.5 - no other problems.

No problem here either.. Win7 / NT7 combo. I use 64bit only for backtesting and such but 32bit is what I use for running day to day which is due to someone's laziness in upgrading Zenfire/Rithmic API to 64 bit.

Anyways, have went live with my script since previous version of NT7... 9 I believe? I cant keep track with these version numbers anymore.

Someone indicated that their main problem is not hearing sound? that doesnt make sense.. check the box under options. I have mine all unchecked and my script simply emails me when it takes a trade. I am not around the PC much of the time anyways.

Perhaps the only suggestion I can make for anyone facing Win7 issue is to check if user profile is corrupted by any chance. Symptom might look similar to some AntiVirus software causing issues. The way to fix it is create a new account or if you want to carry over existing stuff then follow this link

                      Kumar,

I have been a customer of Dell for nearly 20 years, purchased 6 systems. I acutally ordered another system for trading XPS 9000 from Dell , and just about everything that could go wrong went wrong. Dell's quality of assembly, sales support and technical support is at the lowest ever. Dell no more. I just finished building my own. If you don;t feel comfortable doing that I recommand Falcon Systems

                        Thanks for your continuing interest.
An update, I have done another clean install of WIN 7 x 64 bit plus updated to Net Framework 4.2 beta and running NT7 v 10.
I still get problems when first starting NT7 32bit.
If I run NT 7 64bit it starts better but of course no data.
I shall keep trying with each new release of NT 7
                        Regards John

                          Kumar,

i checked for you. Simulation Datafeed:
                          - manual order and
                          - SampleMACrossOver strategy
                          --> Sound alerts works.
