Why do you still have two DOMs?

I'm just going through the menus as I see them and want to bring up DOMs. This is a look and feel issue, not so much function. I may be totally alone in this opinion.

Seeing as how this is a version upgrade, I can't help but wonder why there are still going to be two DOMs to choose from under the File/New menu.

Can't the dynamic and static functions be handled as a toggle switch option, or right menu option?

From a user's stand point seeing two DOM is a little disconcerting. I would think to new users it would be confusing. In this high pressure business anything that is confusing raises the blood pressure, and should be avoided. It's like giving a car two types of speedometers to read.

Ah, yes I have heard of copyright claims on the DOM concept before but still see DOMs everywhere so I didn't really know what came of it. (I don't really need to know the details on that to those who are big on industry gossip.)

I'm amazed you are prevented from rearranging the functionality you currently have between the DOMS into one "Super DOM" on the main menu.

It sounds like you aren't allowed to simplify the menu structure. That's too bad.

I was hoping it would be legal to just change where you pick between static and dynamic modes without changing the name or functionality in either mode.

I'd still ask the lawyers to check their legal journals on that one.

      Thanks.

          Thanks for the background links.

The price ladder page is necessary to clarify what each DOM does.

On the licensing page it says, "These fees are ONLY applicable to NinjaTrader products that utilize the static SuperDOM trading screen".

The way I read that is the fees would still apply to the DOM used in static price ladder mode regardless of how that mode was initiated.

For example, imagine a price ladder mode selection spin-box at the top of the DOM. It could still calculate the licensing fees for any live trades initiated in the static price ladder mode. It might also make the price ladder functions more self explanatory.

I think you could re-arrange things to simplify the menu structure someday should you ever want to. It's certainly not a 'have to do'. I'm just saying I don't think you are pinned in with regard to the user interface. I can certainly understand overcompensating and wanting to keep a mile of distance between the two modes also just to make sure the patent lawyers and judges see the distinction, unfortunately.

          Thanks for the help.

PS. Fee or not, static is my hands down favorite 'if' I use a DOM. In fact just for continuity I'd extend the fees to Forex trading just to have DOMs work there too, if that is the issue. It's just a matter of sticking to what you know, but getting familiar with trading off the charts seems the way to go in the future.

            Change from Dynamic to Static

I have an account at a brokerage that offers the free version of NT on Zen Fire. I also have a Multi-Broker version with Dynamic DOM. Is it possible to switch a Dynamic Multi-Broker version to Static DOM free version without reloading NT or reactivating custom indicators?

            thanks,
