    No Trade Execution Sounds

Last week I migrated NT6.7 to Windows 7 and was surprised to find that the trade execution sounds (order pending, .... ) did not play. Given the know compatibility issues, I decided to get NT 7 Beta 10. Unfortunately the problem persists. I tried using alerts in a simple strategy but even that did not work.

I have been in touch with NT support for several days but as of now, they have no clue as it why the sounds are not working - apparently no one else has reported this problem and it is not possible to reproduce.

I am just wondering whether it is a Windows 7 issue local to my machine -I got a new computer just 5 days ago, not sure to what to look for and where.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kumar

If you copied old files, maybe you need to convert them to WAV/PCM:

      Thanks Harry.

      Just check the file types - .WAV;
Uninstalled and Reinstalled NT6.5 after deleting the user folder - No Change.
Most frustrating when one does not know what to look for.
      Cheers,
      Kumar

Kumar, there are different types of .wav files. You might have to convert from one type .wav to another type .wav. If you want to know, whether NT 7 can read your sound files, embed them within an indicator that triggers a sound alert. If it is a new computer, you should also check under program files -> ninjatrader 7 -> sounds, whether you can play the sounds directly.

          Thanks for the suggestions, Harry.
I have checked all sounds in the NT 7 and NT 6.5, and these play fine with Windows Media Player.
Did a complete uninstall of 6.5 and reinstalled, but no change.
          Cheers,

            Hi Kumar,

are you talking about your personal sound files or the NT sounds that are automatically installed?

In any case, you might want to create an indicator with a sound alert. Put the sound alert into a try{ soundalert } catch{} block and check tracefile for exceptions.

              Hello Harry,
No I am talking about the sounds that come with NT (e.g. Order Pending, Reversing ....).
However, I created a simple strategy which was to generate a sound alert on barupdate, that did not work either. I will try out your suggestion (not familiar with programming structure tho). Incidentally, I have the same issue with NT6.5 running on Windows 7.
Yesterday, after several attempts of uninstalling and reinstalling NT7 , after restoring my pc to an earlier point in time, I got NT7 to throw an exception, have sent the trace file to NT Support, I could not make much sense of the trace. Waiting for some feed back from NT Support on Monday.

              Thanks for your effort.
              Cheers,
              Kumar

                kumar,

Unfortunately since you are plagued with the same issue on 6.5 and 7 which was not reported before for either versions I can only suggest you try a different machine to see if you can reproduce your issues there. Maybe there is some conflict with some software you have installed on that machine.

                  Thanks Josh,

I have not installed any software on the machine (other than what came factory installed, Mcafee antivirus).
I had installed Skype that worked fine. Yesterday I reformatted the disk and went back original system settings).

                  Desperately looking for clues.

                  Thanks,
                  Kumar

                    Josh,

Just occured to me, when I first reported my issues with 6.5 in Windows 7, I was told that 6.5 was not supported on Windows 7, that is why I went for Beta 10 - sort of catch 22.
Were there no clues in the trace file that I sent on Saturday?
I just spoke to Dell, they obviously are not in a position to debug an application, they suggest that I either downgrade to Windows 7 32 bit or upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate and run virtual XP and hope the application works. I was hoping that the development team at NinjaTrader might have some clues which are likely to elude a retail user.

                    Thanks.
                    Kumar

                      kumar,

Windows 7 is supported for NT7, but unfortunately we have no idea what may be happening on your machine. There was nothing in the logs or traces. My suggestion still stands in trying a separate machine.

                        Josh,
Thanks for all the responses, I have got Microsoft interested in helping me resolve this problem.

When you say Window 7 is supported for NT7, is it supported for both 32 and 64 bit versions?

                        Thanks,
                        Kumar

                            Josh,

My issue: Is NT 7 32 bit supported on a 64 bit machine?

[I have a 64 bit machine, and I use Zenfire which is a 32 bit technology]

If the answer is YES, then there is a problem with my machine and if the answer is NO, then I need to find a data provider that supports 64 bit technology so that I can run NT 7 64 bit version on my machine.

                            Thank you

                            Kumar

Kumar, replied also to your other thread - NT7 can be run either as 32 or 64 bit version in a 64 bit OS environment.

For ZenFire running the 32 bit one is needed currently, correct.
