NT7 Beta 10 only updade price on one chart

    Hello,

    I'm testing NT7 beta 10 with 1min, 2min, 5min, 15min, 60min, and 1440min charts. All have 8EMA, 20EMA, 200EMA indicators, and a few imported NT6.5 indicators.

When I connect to Zenfire through AMP futures, only 15min chart has price update that is candlesticks were displaying changes in price. Other charts were not updating at all. They were static.

Let me know if you need more info on this.
    Thanks

    hcgaloi,

Please ensure you have proper end dates for all the charts and also please check the session templates you have applied to them to ensure you are in-session.

      Hi Josh,

Thanks for your response. I saved a copy of 15min chart template and loaded it in 5min, 2min, and 1min charts. So, the only different between those charts were the timeframes. However, only 15min chart updated price, and the rest didn't.

      Thanks

Please provide reproducible steps. You need to be absolutely sure you are using proper session templates. Suggest you just switch it to Default 24/7 for ease of testing.

          Hi Josh,

I found the problem. In the Data Series, the End Date was default to 02/14/2010 on the charts that didn't get price updates which make sense. However, how do I change it so that the End Date would automatically change to current date instead of manually changing it every time.

          Thanks

If you press the Last date on the Calendar it will auto roll forward as days progress.

              Mine did not...

Thanks Josh. I opened a chart yesterday in NT7. The End Date was "3/15/2010" and Session Template was "Use Instrument Settings" -- both the default. I left the chart open all night, and this morning it was not updating. To get it to update, I had to change the End Date to "3/16/2010". Should I have clicked something else when opening the chart to tell it to update on new days? (Why not put in a choice for "Continuous," or "Today," under "End Date" instead of requiring a specific date?)

Also, how do we set the default Data Series options so when we open a new chart, we don't have to re-type our "Period" and "Data" parameters in the right-side of the Data-Series window? For example, I want my default Period to be 600 tick, my default Data to be 10000 bars, End date continuous, session template 24/7. Can I save these as the default somewhere?

              Thanks for your help.

                Hello Light,

The 'End date' should contain the current date automatically. Can you please create a new chart and check if the current date is used.

Leave NinjaTrader running if possible and check the next day what date is reflected as 'End date'.

Could it be related to the session template that was used by the instrument? What instrument did you have selected in the chart? Please check in the Instrument Manager what session template is used for this instrument. Subsequently check in the Session Manager if the time you checked the chart is included in the session template.

Unfortunately Data Series templates are not supported.

Thanks Jason. Your point is well-taken. It was an ES 06-10 tick chart, I checked the chart during the pre-session time, and unfortunately the session template was the default "Use Instrument Settings," which means it would not update until after the session started. The End date when I opened the Data Series window this morning was "3/15/2010," but I assume that would have auto-updated to 3/16/2010 after market open at 8:30 CST. If so, that would explain the problem. I'll check again tomorrow to be sure.

This again points out the importance of being able to set default values for Data Series "Data" and "Period" parameters. I use non-standard options, yet I can't tell NT to open my chart type by default. Would you please pass along the request that we be given the option of setting defaults for Data and Period values in some manner? (Or perhaps I should post this request elsewhere?) This would have prevented the problem in my case.

Thank you again for your help and quick response.

                    Hello Light,

I see, please let me know the outcome tomorrow.

I will forward your suggestion to support Data Series templates to our development team and ask them if they can add this to the list of future considerations for the software.

The problem with End Date in Data Series is from a bug in market replay. Here are the steps to recreate the bug:

                      1) Open a workspace without any chart
                      2) Run market replay and choose a replay date
                      3) Open a workspace with charts
                      4) Perform market replay
                      5) Close workspace when done with replay
                      6) Click "yes" on the popup window asking to save workspace
                      7) Disconnect market replay
                      8) Connect to live data feed
                      9) Open workspace from step 6
                      10) End Date on chart would get stuck on the last replay date

                      Step 6 is the culprit.

                        Hello hcgaloi,

Unfortunately this is as expected, since you save the workspace. This will save the Data Series settings, thus the 'End date' as well.

                          Hi Jason,

This was not an issue in NT 6.5 though. I could save workspace after I was done with market replay. Then I when I connected to live feed (zenfire), chart would update without having to change End Date to current date.

                          Thanks

                            Hi hcgaloi,

                            Thank you for your reply.

I am not able to replicate this behavior in NinjaTrader 6.5 or 7.

I took the following steps in to reproduce in both versions:
                            1. Open NinjaTrader with only a blank workspace running.
                            2. Connected to Market Replay and replayed 3/16/2010.
                            3. Opened a workspace with a 1 minute ES 06-10 chart.
                            4. Replayed data.
                            5. Closed the workspace containing the ES chart and selected 'Yes' when prompted to save.
                            6. Disconnected from Market Replay.
                            7. Connected to another provider (Zen-Fire).
                            8. Opened the workspace containing my ES 06-10 1 minute chart.

After opening the workspace with that 1 minute ES chart, data plots as expected. The Last Date is reported to be 3/17/2010 (the current date). This occurs in both NinjaTrader 6.5 and 7.

Please create a new workspace by clicking File > Workspaces > New Workspace.
In the new workspace, please create a chart of ES 06-10, save the workspace and then close it.

Next, follow the steps listed above exactly and let me know if you see the same behavior.

                              Hi Kyle,

I have tested this problem extensively under Beta 11, and the problem hadn't surfaced. I suppose we may not need to spend more time on this.

                              Thanks
