Takes too many clicks to open a chart

I apologize if someone has already mentioned this.

For example, it currently takes me 10 mouse clicks and keyboard presses to get the settings I want on a new chart after I get to the new chart Data Series window.

    Here is the count:

Getting to the Data Series window with File, New, Chart takes 3 clicks.

In the data series menu I select the market (example: ES 03-10). then click New, (2 clicks)

Under Period I change 1 minute to 5 minute, (3 clicks and keyboard presses)

Under Data I change 5 days to load to 90 days of history, (4 clicks and keyboard presses)

    Then click OK, (1 click.)

Total 10 clicks and keyboard presses, plus 3 to get into the Data Series window is 13 clicks and mouse presses.

Since I plot vertical lines I also increase the candle wick width however this setting is saved and loaded in a template so I am excluding it from the count.

It would help if the default settings could be changed for items that are not saved in a chart template.

I think there used to be a way to save the days to load under options, but I don't see it any more, so I don't think it is user error. If there is a way to change the defaults I would suggest making it more obvious.

I've included a screen shot of what the Data Series window looks like every time I open it showing the items that need to be selected or changed.

I'd appreciate it if you could kindly look into the issue.

    Thanks!

You can already set these to defaults. Parameterize it however you want then right click --> Set to Period Type default.

That should save you considerable steps for subsequent charts.

Thank you, Josh. This is just different compared to NT 6.5. I was also wondering, where to set the defaults. The solution in NT 7 is much better, once you know it!

There is an increase in "clickage" for almost every operation. Enabling a strategy on a chart now requires an extra step to toggle the enabled option. If you want to change a parameter on a strategy that's already running you have to disable the strategy, change the parameter, enable the strategy, click OK.

Enabling strategies is required for the highly requested strategy persistence. The extra step there is unfortunately unavoidable to allow for this feature.

                Josh,

So as not to keep those nifty right click save instructions a secret you could put instructions in the description box under the settings to say right click on parameter field to save default settings to make it more obvious to the user.

In general I should have known, when it doubt just right click.

                Thanks.

Got it, thanks for the suggestion. We will look at making usability improvements once we get NT7 to a production state.
