Crosshair Display on Charts With Multiple Dataseries for Same Instrument

I just turned on crosshairs for a chart where the same instrument is displayed more than once in different panels (i.e., with different timeframes and bar types) so I could try to see what the differences were between some of the new bar types that are defined with V7.

What I observed is that the crosshair vertical line displays fine, but the crosshair horizontal line only displays on one of the panels.

I understand that there could be ambiguity if it were displayed on more than one panel, but that is what I'd want in this case.

Perhaps this could be done where the horizontal crosshair display in the other panels (i.e., at the same price but not the panel currently "in focus") would have its horizontal component displayed in a different color or dash-style or something like that?

    KBJ,

Unfortunately that cannot be done from a single chart. What you can do is use two charts and then use global crosshairs on both.

So Chart 1 (receiving chart) = your multi-series chart with your new chart types. Chart 2 = say 1min or something along those lines, when you mouse around chart 2, you will have horizontal lines in chart 1.

Josh, thanks for looking at this.

      I understand the workaround.

However, what I was hoping for was a new feature that would accomplish this when the same instrument exists multiple times on the same chart.

This is another one of the category of feature changes that (I think) might be (somewhat) fast and easy to accomplish because there is already existing code there for plotting the crosshairs and figuring out where the vertical positioning would be (so it doesn't have to be written completely from scratch), so to plot an extra horizontal line with a different color or dash-style for each case where the same instrument occurs on the same chart would not (I'd hope) be a daunting task.

        KBJ,

This was a design decision as we found it confusing to know where your mouse was when you had multiple lines moving along the x and y axis at the same time. Thank you for the suggestion though. I have added it to our feedback list.

I thought that might be the case, and was why I suggested a different color or dash-style to de-emphasize the panel(s) which do not currently have "focus" while allowing some help to users who are trying to spot what's going on.

Another alternative that had occurred to me would be to add another type of crosshair for this case, but it would seem to me that adding extra menu selection options for this really isn't necessary and could be avoided altogether by using the first idea I mentioned.
