    Session Template Time Zone

    Hi,

    I'm using ninjatrader 7 beta 9.
When I open the instrument (e.g. ES 03-10), this instrument has session template using "Default 24/7" sessioin template which is time zone GMT+8:00

I change the time zone to GMT-6:00 and save the template.
Then open the chart again. It shows the time zone also as GMT+8:00

Seems this is a Bug .....
    Please kindly advice. thanks

Please try this and let me know if it changes anything, open the chart, then right click, reload historical data. Anything change?

      Hi ,

When I right click the chart, the reload historical data is in grey color (ie. cannot select)

Also, I find that the "strategy" and "strategy performance" also in grey color.

      Attached are the screen shots.
Please kindly advice what should be done to solve the issue

        Hi njuser,

You will need to be connected to your data feed to be able to reload historical data and add strategies. Please ensure you are connected before trying again.

          Hi josh,

          thanks for your reply.
I connect to the data feed (i.e. IB data feed), then perform right click and reload data.
However, the time line still show my local time (see the attachment)

Since the instrument template (for ES 03-10) is GMT-6:00, the time zone should reflect US time, NOT my local time.

Please kindly advice. thanks a lot

            njuser,

To clarify, the session templates do not mean that the data will show up in that time zone. Data always shows in your local time zone. The time zone information there is just to help you facilitate easier creation of templates for various time zones exchanges may run on.

              Hi josh,

              thanks for your reply.
But I am not quite understand .... if the chart time line ALWAYS shows local time, what is the use of time zone in session template ?

Can you give an example ?

              thanks a lot

The use is so you define the session template in the time zone of the exchange. It is just easier to define for people. For instance, looking up trading hours for NYSE would yield you times in Eastern Time. Instead of thinking about what the time conversion is you can just create the session definition exactly how you saw it on Google or wherever you found the trading hours from.

                  thanks josh.

Currently, my time zone is GMT+8:00, for ES 03-10, should be GMT-6:00

If I would like to change the chart time line to the original US time zone (i.e. GMT-6:00), how to do it ?

To do that you would have to change your PC clock's timezone and then reload your data to reflect the new time stamps.

                      Hi josh,

                      thanks for the reply.

I would suggest that the coming version 7 beta 10 to include the facilities to show the chart time line in corresponding time zone

For example, for ES 03-10, user can choose to display to time line in either his Local time zone or Original US time zone (e.g. GMT-6:00).

This would eliminate the need to change the PC clock's timezone.
                      thanks!

This is how NinjaTrader has worked since the beginning. There will likely be no change at this point in time as to how the timestamps are displayed. The requests have been noted though.
