    Changing of instruments via keyboard

I like the functionality to change instruments via keyboard directly within charts in NinjaTrader 7. I extensively use this functionality every trading session.

However, when I mistype an instrument symbol the "on the fly function" instantly adds it to the database, and I have to delete it within the instrument manager to get rid of it. I would like to have a context menu which appears when adding a new instrument on the fly, asking for confirmation if you want to add this instrument to the instrument manager to avoid this.

This is just meant as a suggestion.

    Best regards, ModularMix

Thanks for the suggestion ModularMix. For stock traders this may be a hinderance as they likely change between many many stocks that would not necessarily exist within their Instrument Managers.

ya its a big headache. y not just add a msgbox which will give the user an option (simple yes or no) to create a new symbol or not.

        bukkan,

Having a message box will be very annoying for people who constantly switch between many instruments. Having an extra instrument in the Instrument Manager will not have any substantial impact.

          Josh,
the msgbox will pop up only if the instrument is not there.

currently if i want to change the instrument i simply type in the symbol, say ABCD. now say, if i mistype it as ABDC, i am encountering an black screen which is equally annoying (besides i have to clean up the database).

again the msgbox can have an "do not show again" check box option just like what the Import NinjaScript msgbox have.

          thanks for your prompt reply.

          regards..

            bukkan,

Even with such a popup typing in incorrectly will still come up with a blank screen. It wouldn't be any different with a popup.

Thank you for the suggestion though.

              Hi Josh,

I agree the previous users that it is annoying that :
if incorrectly key in some non-existing instrument, (e.g. IMB instead of IBM) ninjatrader would create IMB in instrument manager and user need to clean up manually.

So, it is Suggested that :
e.g. add an option check box within ninjatrader preference / setup to enable automatic adding new instrument to instrument manager if user key in non-existing instrument sybmol

By this method, user can select whether to enable this option by his preference.

              thanks

We will add this to our suggestion list. Although this makes a lot of sense, we will not be introducing any new features until after we release NT7 to production. This is so we do not add any more delay in getting NT7 out the door.
