Charting Bug LOG + CROSS HAIR

    Version: NT7-B6

BUG: Scale & cross-hair mess up when I try to draw extended-line (Ctr-F4) on LOG SCALE chart with CROSS HAIR enabled. It is ok if I switch to arrow pointer.

Also, my favorite DaysBackDaily value for 6.5 was 550. I could not find the same for NT7. Where is this setting gone?

    Thanks,

    Thank you for reporting.

Can you elaborate what you mean by mess up? I tried on a 1 min chart ES 03-10, no indicators, change scale to logarithmic, enabled cross hair and drew and extended line and it worked as expected so we need to figure out what you are doing different.

The days back setting is in the Format Data Series window, right side you will see "Days to load" value. You can also save 550 as a default by right clicking in this property grid.

After switching to log scale, make sure you move chart back and front to have the price axis shrieked or stretched. This is when the mess-up starts to happen. Screen-shot is attached - see how pen and cross-hair are out of sync.

This time I tried IBM EoD on Yahoo connection.

Thanks for the tip, it worked like charm. It still defaults to "Minute" for new charts. Can I default it to default time period to "Day".

Got it, can reproduce. You can't set it always show up as Day.

An option to right click on that grid and set as default period would be great.

Can you please add this to your TODO list.

            Hi TraderSU !

This 'mess up' (different y position of crosshair and mouse cursor after switching to logaritmic scale) is a bug which is fixed, and the fix will be available with next update of NinjaTrader.

            Thanks for reporting !

            Kind regards,

Awesome, you guys are the best :-)

Can someone also look into following thread? It's a new feature request for generic data connection where I can define the fetch URL.

Or this can also be simply addressed by allowing to override historical data URL in current Yahoo connection. The same feature can be added into Google connection - (my bias/suggestion is more towards this fix).

This change is pretty simple and will add great value to everyone with mild programming skill. It will open a whole world of charting possibilities. In-fact if someone share the proxy fetch URL then non-programmer can also use it.

For example: I bought 100 APPL and shorted 500 QQQQ ; how do I plot this combination?

With my proposed change, following URL will fetch the right data for the pair trade. This can be plotted easily if I can change the regular yahoo finance URL to my proxy script.

Does NT allows third party connection module? I can program C# and can happily apply this fix to connector module. If you are not willing to include this in the product, may be I can manage the modified DLL and make it available to interested parties. I sure see lots of interest from the community. Can I get yahoo/google connector code?

                TraderSU,

As Dierk mentioned in that thread, it is currently unsupported. Thank you for the suggestion though. We have added your request to our list of future considerations.

The reason why I am repeating my request is that this is a very tiny change and adds lots of value to charting capabilities.

I can happily provide a proxy fetch URL to community that allows any arithmetic calculation. Programmers can implement their own fetch script. The value addition is great with very minimal effort and side-effect.

As per my guess, this is less than an person-hour change for your dev team and will need very little QA effort. My humble request is to run through your tech-team and have it included this in the next release.

Most likely this prefix URL (http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com/table.csv) is a constant inside module code. They just need to make it a property and connection setup screen will allow us to override the prefix.

Many advance charting software has this feature and this extremely simple change will add same (or say better) capabilities to NT.

Apart for arithmetic charting, other usage scenario can be as following.

Historical data for CAR (or DX-Y.NYB - code for $USD) is missing from YAHOO website, but it will become totally transparent if proxy fetch script can get CAR data from alternate data-source (may be a local database).

Someone who maintains local EoD database does not need to connect to Yahoo every time. Saves lots of bandwidth and makes things faster.

Please run it through your tech team. You will be really surprised to find how small this change is.

PS: This will be my last attempt. I can get this working by applying fix into my etc/host file but that is little inconvenient. But if you include in the NT, everyone will be able to use it.

Unfortunately I would not have any further information for you than what we already provided.

When is the next release? I'm eagerly waiting for this fix.
