    B6 : Indicator panel overlap

    Hi,
I have an indicator that is supposed to plot horizontal lines only on the price panel. I use the Overlay/DrawOnPricePanel (what exactly is the difference) set to true in the code to ensure this. But unfortunately the lines make it onto the indicator panel as if it is the price panel. For the record, the lines draw perfectly on the price panel.

Could you provide provide a simple as possible sample of an indicator exhibiting that behavior? Thanks

Sorry for the delay. Attached is an example. Place the indicator in the price panel and the lines show up on the indicator panel.

      Cheers,

There is something wrong with your indicator (see screenshot):
        - see indicator label: it would alter it's values as you pressed F5. Should not happen
        - no lines are painted at all
        - nothing in the logs

Please strip it down to the bare essentials and eliminate any unnecessary code to make sure there is no issue related to your custom code. Thanks

Strange because I just added it to a new chart and it paints all the lines as expected, pressing F5 as many times. Plus when you add an indicator panel (MACD or any) the lines fall from the price panel to the indicator panel.

There are no lines painted here as I add an MACD on a seperate panel. Please proceed as per below to isolate the cause of trouble. Thanks

I am not sure I follow. You say "isolate the cause of trouble", if I knew it I wouldn't have posted it. Now see the attached chart. The lines show up. I am on B6.

I am not a coder, I put that together and worked in NT6.5. I wouldn't know how to show the lines across panels, even if I tried. Shouldn't NT have the ability to segregate lines from crossing panels? Isn't DrawOnPricePanel/Overlay is for?

Your indicator is not working here: thus it's impossible to analyze anything.

I'm not sure what you are you looking for: if you wanted to have the indicator running on a different panel, why not just putting it there?

                  Dierk,
Maybe I did not make myself clear. The indicator is superimposed on price panel and not supposed to show up on any other indicator panel. I mentioned having used the NT's Overlay/DrawOnPricePanel set to true to ensure this sticks to the price panel only. But the indicator's output lines sometimes make their way into my panel 2 and should not happen. I have no idea why this happens. This is why I posted the issue.

Now I have managed to place the indicator on every chart I tried and plots successfully albeit the above mentioned glitch. When you say you cannot plot it, I have no idea why. I am no expert on your platform. But why would it plot on my end and not yours? But then again, thats why this is a beta!

If you fail to reproduce I guess it will be a bug I will have to live with.

                  Regards,
                  SA

I just set my PC to central time and tried your indicator on a 1500 ticks chart. I now see lines on the price panel. Your indicator probably does would not work on a different timezone or chart interval.

Anyway: I added a MACD indicator on a separate panel and the lines are still plotted on the price panel. Please provide exact (!) steps to reproduce your issue. Thanks

                      Dierk,
This issue is consistent on any chart settings as long as the market is trending. Now to reproduce, open a 2 min chart for the 4 Jan 10 using US Central timezone, as that is what I trade in. Add any indicator into panel 2. For this demonstration, I inserted a vol indicator.

Now if you have all day's data, you should see at around 12.30 onwards, some of the plotted lines fall through the price panel and onto the indicator panel. This behavior is consistent on all chart types, timezones, etc.

The plotted lines totally ignore the presence of any other panels on the chart. NT should not allow this. Throw another indicator panel this time above the chat price panel, and you get the same behavior.

Hope the above leads you to reproduce what experience. Will attach images later if required when I get back to my platform later in the day.

                      Thanks for your consideration.

                      SA

                        >> open a 2 min chart for the 4 Jan 10
Not sure how to do that. Right now it's the 8th of Jan. Is this a replay setup? Please be specific. Thanks

Also: Which instrument is this? ES 03-10?

Open 2 min chart of the ES for the 4th of January 2010, which happens to be Monday of this week. Place the indicator onto the chart and follow as indicated above. Replay or not the issue is observable.

This is becoming complicated than it deserves.

Excellent. Thanks for clarification. I now see what you observe. We'll look into and get back to you shortly.
