    Feature request: Line Alerts

Can you guys make the horizontal and vertical lines have the options to plot the data of where you put them as well as an alert.

For example, if I plot a horizontal line on the ES at 1090.50, I would LOVE if I could actually have the option of displaying the value of where the line is, and if I drag it the value of that line changes with wherever it is.

It would also be awesome if I had the option to say "alert when hit" and have it do a sound or text alert or something.

I think those are two things that people would love.

Thanks for the suggestion. For the alerts, you can use the indicator PriceAlert to set the alert up at your specified prices.

This would be a nice feature and it seems like it would be easy to implement.

In the meantime I use the attached indicator. It's not perfect and would be unsupported but it works for me...

I second that. I am a seasoned TradeStation user (trying to get away from them because of their latency problems that result in slippage) and I find that having labels on horizontal lines AND the ability to set alerts for those lines is INVALUABLE.

I find that NT's alert system, IMO, is sorta clunky...

            winston99,

For horiz lines it may be of interest to try using the ConstantLines indicator. For alerts, you could try the PriceAlert indicator.

tried 'em. Clunky To use. Why use two indicators to accomplish what oneline should do?

                winston99,

You don't have to use two. You can use whichever one you want. Also if you just want a line you can even just use a draw tool manually. Thank you for your feedback and suggestions though.

Well, all I can tell you is that I have tried both of them, and neither one of them does what we're asking for.

You are steering us to a couple of indicators. Those are fine. But they are awkward to use, especially when you need to make quick changes to the values (= positions on the chart). NT requires us to open the indicators dialog box and click to edit a bunch of parameters.

I'm simply suggesting that you implement your horizontal lines the same way that TradeStation does: give us the option of showing the value in a label at either end of the line, and allow us to set alerts.

This is a simple, elegant system. I can drag the lines around, set alerts etc etc by either clicking on or dragging the line. Simple.

NT does have one feature I REALLY like: the ability to attach a line or other drawing object to ALL charts for the given instrument. Plus the ability to lock them in place and autoscale them.

                  Very nice feature.

Now, if only you'd make the simple feature request above....

A global concept of price alerts has been on our list for sometime, your request falls into this. We had hoped to do something in this area for NT7 but unfortunately this was one of those features that was cut off. Still on our development list though...

                      Hi,

I realize that this is an old thread, but I did not want to start a new thread which repeats what is being discussed here. 1st, let me say that I am very impressed with what you’ve done with NT7 - it is a major improvement over Version 6.5. I am a discretionary trader using the QCharts/eSignal platform and have just about decided that NT7 will allow me to replace QCharts with no loss of charting capability + give me all the trade management features that I don’t have with that platform.

But I do have one suggestion. Please make price alerts easier to use and manage. My perfect solution would involve a right mouse click on the Chart Trader that would give me access to all my alerts and the ability to set/change price levels, attach audio files, etc., for multiple alerts. I’m not sure what the programming implications are, but the usability benefits would be awesome.

                      Thanks for a great product!

Have to definitely agree. Price alerting is VERY weak in NT, being nothing close to other packages. Line alerts are definitely needed and shockingly absent. MA needs work as in an allowing an indicator value to be compared to a previous value of an indicator and alerts that would trigger when comparing one cell to another as well as if cell 1 =x and cell2 =y and cell3 =z, then alert.

Most other efforts have yielded a decent product now, but MA is WAY behind that of other vendors. If one does not want to stare at a screen all day, a substantially beefed up MA is necessary and hopefully, will be forthcoming soon.

                            winston99, I agree,
hemlock has posted a "LabelHorizLines" zip that works in NT7
that is almost there, it can be left clicked to move, thats much faster than typing in the price.
If some helpful c# programmer could add the code for a sound alert
to "LabelHorizLines" zip, it would sure help those of us that have asked for a mouse moveable Line Alert.

Just wanted to add my two cents as well.

The ability to add an alert to a horizontal chart line is sorely needed. I second the idea that the MA alert capability is 'clunky'. I monitor several stocks using the MA - if I setup a price alert, one value is assigned to all the stocks listed in the MA.

I have a hard time understanding/appreciating why anyone would use an MA for one instrument, but the way the system is set up now, if I want to have an alert for one instrument, I have to set up an additional MA to monitor one instrument - and set up one for every instrument that I need an alert on. Lots of extra windows, lots of screen real estate. I hope this becomes a priority.

And, while I am at it - how about adding a 'None' option to the 'PnL display unit'? A lot of discretionary traders find numerical values a hindrance while managing a trade.
