    Drawing/Moving Objects on Tick Charts

If you draw Lines/Boxes and Ellipses on tick charts ...and then move them, as you move the objects they re-size in a very disconcerting way. It appears they are lined to "time." On a tick chart this results in weird re-sizing of the objects that totally skew them. The objects should retain their "shape"

If a box is 4 candles wide, after moving it, it should still be 4 candles wide, not 6, 8, 10, or 2 dues to the fact that the candles in tick take different time periods to draw and the object is trying to compensate for this.

This is not an issue in 6.5. Objects on tick charts in 6.5 behave correctly.

    Thanks
    Mark

We are aware of this issue and have decided to hold off on making any change in this area since there are implications at a usability level in doing so. If we moved to a bar based logic, we would have the same problem you have described when moving objects in a multi-series chart where the x-axis is evenly spaced time. There is actually more to it than this. I am personally monitoring feedback in this area to understand what are options are.

More info ...and thoughts on this ...
Wasted time drawing trend lines that I would normally use to execute trades...drawing trend lines into the future ...is useless

I am sure you will come up w/ some solution...because these lines allow me to make $ ...without them many traders will be dead in the water ...expecially ..if chart markups move ....

something i noticed ..on ninja 6.5 it seems your right edge of the chart does not have the next trading day "so close" ...if you scroll so you can see what is too the right ... "tomorrow" is a few bars away in 7.0 ...but in 6.5 is seems like you deal w/ that differently ...and I do not see tomorrows date in 6.5 like I do in 7.0 ... in 6.5 I can only scroll right to midnight of the current day ... in 7.0 i can scroll many many days ahead....

          Additional thoughts:

I think ..that when MOVING objects on tick/Volume charts the user does not expect the object to automatically re-size based on time because time has no relevance to tick or volume. Personally I do not use any time charts for 99% of my trading. I understand many people do and you need to look at how this reflects in both scenarios ...time/tick/vol

It seems to me that if I am moving a GLOBAL object on a NON-TIME based chart then it should respond relative to BARS on the chart I am making the edit on...and If I am on a Time based chart then it can respond based on time.

If I change my "global" object while I am Viewing a TICK chart...and it has to change on the underlying TIME charts as well, The fact that I am on TICK ...and that it is NOT related to time should take precedence...and if I move the bar then the underlying TIME CHARTS would have the "size" of the bar shrink or grow when it is updated (after the move transalte it to time for the other NON-Tick/Vol based charts).... Not the TICK chart that I am moving it on. It should retain its proportions and scale on whatever chart I am working on NOW.

It is ALMOST impossible to reposition and move drawing objects like trend lines, ellipses and boxes on a TICK chart properly. It is frustrating, infuriating and silly to have the size of the bar change when you are trying to simply reposition it. If Tick is where the edit takes place ... Then bars should reflect the length, width, height of the object as it translates to the current chart where the edits are boing made ...translate that back into time for the other charts for when you update them on the mouse up event.....

I do not mean to be a pain about this but it really goes to usability of the Tick and Volume based charts. One of the reasons that I purchased a lifetime license to ninja is because your chart markup tools in 6.5 were really good. Here they have taken 20 big steps back as far a where tick and volume are concerned.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Without going into all of the granular details (there are quite a few) we are holding internal discussions about this and other related items. I am not promising anything other than we understand there are limitations and as such, we are discussing our options.

Beta 5 shows GREAT improvement in this area/handling of drawing objects on tick charts. I wanted to express my thanks for these changes.

Glad it is working out. Thank you for the testing efforts.
