NT7 Beta 3 Backtesting - Reloads data every time

Noticed today that during backtesting NT7 reloads the data every time (watching control panel status).

I'm backtesting stocks and using eSignal as data provider.

This was also a problem in Beta 2.

You likely have a start date of your backtest that is earlier than the 1st day of data that is in your local database. If this is the case, NT will attempt to reload data for the entire range.

Ray -- another issue related to backtesting... I look at the trades, right-click on an individual trade and choose 'chart' ... data gets reloaded again before displaying the chart.

Also, a lot of times I select the "Chart" tab in backtesting and there are no trades displayed on the chart... if I then do the procedure above (Trades -> Chart) I can see the trades...

This would happen for the same reason I posted in my last reply.

Reloading my historical data seemed to fix the problem.

I was seeing this problem before, and I looked at my historical data and saw that there were some missing dates in the database... i.e. for daily data the database entries went something like 10/272009, 10/28/2009, 11/2/2009. I think this might have triggered the fetching of historical data, but it appears that NT7 did not fill in the void in the database, so it requested the same data again run after run. Since I'm also using minute bars, fetching 2 years of them slowed things down a lot, and if I connected to IB's historical server I quickly hit my limit.

I reloaded my historical data and now I'm not seeing the problem. I've also move to NT7b4 so it's possible that had an effect as well.
