Keep in mind that Microsoft in it's infinite wisdom turned off the rdp host on windows home premiums (which is same as professional minus the rdp). So you need to have professional or ultimate as host (your pc).

Even if you have one good luck with static ip. If you have a dynamic ip address then it will keep changing on you.

I myself am looking at remote log in to monitor and this NTMT sounds intriguing albeit not very intuitive to look at. I am running strategy on my home pc.

I was more thinking in the line of installing software such as logmein or gotomypc which would then enable a smartphone to do its magic.

I started looking into smartphones and found that windows mobile 6.5 can be found on samsung omnia II and HTC Imagio while 6.1 can be found on HTC Touch Pro 2. All of it is useless if you cant use rdp client. Way to go Microsoft.. If they cant lock a user like me down, then good luck with those using iPhone OS and Android OS. So no winmo for me.. besides logmein doesnt work on it either I believe.. I maybe wrong on that..

If you go for android phones such as Moto Droid, then you can download an app such as phonemypc which last I checked was in beta and had ssl turned off (and your pc had to be unlocked)

Nexus One has android 2.01 but not sure about its app availability.

iPhone has logmein ignition but I am into verizon so no iPhone for me thank you. All the above mentioned are from VZ.

You can zoom in and out on any of these phones so 3.6 inch screen is not a problem while remote logged in.

Worst part about these expensive smart phones is that they turn instantly into paper weight as soon as you end your contract. Except for global phones which might work on other carriers but only at 2g speeds. 3g frequencies vary per carrier (Tmo 1700, ATT 850 / 1900 mhz). Only TP2 comes with North American 3g on both cdma and gsm but it is software locked from using other carriers on 3g. Imagio has 2100 mhz single band 3g that will work only in europe.

    Here are a few links.

      thanks tradejockey...good info

I am not going to even attempt remote access until I have SPA working on a Linux box
see... http://cipherdyne.org/fwknop/ At that point it does not matter which remote software I use...will start with LogMeIn.

Definitely will not use SSL solution (attack in 2006)... see video http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2505225

Initially I will use my netbook as client and then a Motorola Droid Milestone or Nexus One. Great to be able to zoom.

        Hello ATi user
NTMT needs the IIS7 functionality of Windows. For this reason you need at a minimum the Vista Professional or Windows 7 Professional versions.
Concerning general remote access software: Have you ever tried to do more than just looking at the screen of your PC from the mobile device?
Try for example to load NinjaTrader and insert a new strategy with many parameters from within a general remote access package. It will take you ages to accomplish this, and always present is the fear of having actuated something different than intended. At worst, after 20 minutes of sweating and cursing you will just abandon.

Also, most remote access software packages are device specific and then you are tied to a Windows Mobile, Google Android or whatever OS the mobile device is running.

NTMT 's approach is different. It will run with all mobile devices and cell phones because it delivers standard web pages to the cell phone. It will also run on the 80g light cell phone that you carry always with you!
NTMT is made by a trader for a trader, and to check your current NinjaTrader positions and strategies or just get real time market data info takes only a few clicks on your (standard) cell phone.
I suggest that you just try out with a 30 day license and you will realize that the strategy and position management is as easy
as it can get, actually almost like on the real NinjaTrader.
For a proper installation (IIS7, known ip address or free dyndns service) I suggest that you call your local PC guy
for advice. Apart from the valuable advice you can get from him concerning the setup of a reliable
trading PC, he will setup NTMT in less than 1 hour on your PC.

        regards
        Andreas

          Thanks Andreas

I am working on securing the ports first with the SPA solution on a Linux box

After that I will try various remote access apps on a netbook

After that on to cell phone apps.. possibly inlcuding NTMT

I've had great results remote controlling a PC using an iPhone running Jaadu VNC on the iPhone, and TightVNC server (with the DFMirage driver) on the PC, on both Windows Vista and Windows 7 64 bit.

Jaadu VNC Connect is an awesome app, works great via 3G or WiFi, not so great on Edge.

TightVNC is a great, and free, remote-control server. You can also use the TightVNC client on a laptop for remote access. TightVNC is password protected but doesn't use SSL, and I'm OK with that.

The DFMirage video mirror driver improves performance:

I have a cable modem; the IP address could change but in practice it never does. But just in case I use DynDNS.org, which my router automatically updates if the IP changes. Jaadu VNC has their own way to find your PC if it has a dynamic IP, but I don't use it because DynDNS works fine.

FYI I recently got a Motorola SB6120 cable modem; it supports DOCSIS 3 which is what you need for higher-speed service offerings. I upgraded to Comcast's Ultra! 22MPBS service, it's a huge improvement for a small price increase.
