Optimze Heavy CPU usage

Attached a strat which seems to really tax the system when optimizing. It involves three EMA and an ATR stop. The parameters I optimise on are:

ATRLookback: 7:14
ATRDS: 2:4
LongEMA: 50:200
MedEMA: 21:50
ShortEMA: 7:21

In 6.5 it would take 2 hours and normally cr$p out when looking at daily returns on ETF's going back five years. In 7.b4 it works but takes the same time... 2 hours.

Data is IQFeed and the instruments I've tried it on are EEM and EFA.

The issue is speed.

EDIT: Dell T3500/Xeon3520/WinXPPro/4MB RAM.

That 'strat is using 70% plus of CPU.

This is expected. NT7 is optimized to use all available cores/processor on optimization.

I got no problem with cpu working.. NT7 wrings out a lot more from your cpu in a way that nt6.5 couldnt. I have a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit dual core and I clearly see both the cores working (upto 100%). Earliar it was like avg 50% (one working more while the other sitting around even under heavy load)..

the problem I have is that after it is done, I click on trades tab or periods tab (and perhaps the chart tab), it takes a while for those results to show up... not sure if it caches the results of prior optimization/backtest.

Not sure why you see a problem there. NT reruns a strategy with the parameters selected to display the detail results. If NT would maintain all detail information for all optimization runs in the grid then you would run quickly in RAM issues which is not what you would expected.
