    Continuing Instability - NT 7 Beta 4

I have been using the Beta since Beta 1, but for there is a continuing theme of instability with each of the releases. I have posted some issues related to indicators, backtesting, and optimizer problems.

I guess there is a class of Problems that bother me the most are the ones I don't know how to explain to you as they are not repeatable - they are just instability and unreliability issues which happen, for me, way to frequently.

The latest is that NT 7, B4 crashed after adding a new chart with two data series on it. This then cause the reminder of the charts to die and be unable to reload. I tried disconnecting from the data providers and repairing the Db, then resetting the DB, but this did not work. So I had to stop and start NT 7 to get back to usable platform.

The second instance was earlier in the day, when I tried to load a separate new chart with the VIX on it and it crashed NT again.

I have also had numerous crashes selecting or changing data series settings or changing settings in the "options" area. Again none of them are repeatable or explainable as they just happen once and after a restart it is gone.

I have tried to narrow it down to platforms - I have three instances running on different platforms - one a 64 bit Win 7 desktop running AVG, a second is another 64Bit Platform running AVG, but with the NT 7 Directory excluded from the search path, and a third is a Win 7 32 bit platform with no AVG (I was hoping to explain the erratic behavior with it being something like AVG or AV in general) but the random problems continue on each.

I am not sure how I can help guys figure out what is up (I like the platform alot), but I am at a loss and right now I personally don't see the NT 7 platform operating as Beta code, rather as Alpha/concept type of code. Maybe my expectations are wrong, but Beta code to me almost there for production release, and right now I would be pretty uncomfortable letting this run my trading.

I can see you all the logs/traces I have if this helps, let me know. If there is other debuggers I can run to help diagnose these, let me know also I can attach it to one of the instances to capture more details to support your efforts to stabilize.

    dnoff,

We need more information as to exactly what kind of chart you were using. Which instruments? Which session templates? What time frame? How many days back? What provider? Candlestick/OHLC/etc? Min/tick/volume/etc? Indicators? Strategies? Draw objects? Chart Trader? etc. Information for this on all of your charts would be great.

Many people do not run into the issues you run into and there is a specific reason you run into it. We just have not been able to isolate out what exactly that variable is so thank you for bearing with us.

      Thanks Josh,

I am not sure what is happening myself as it is not a consistent thing (i.e. load chart a, do b, then c, and it crashes.) - I wish it was, but so far is it just a series of small things.

Aside from creating a new threat for each ocurrance/event is there any other way to effectively send these items in that provide you guys the necessary data etc? (i.e. is "send email" after a crash a good method?)

        dnoff,

Sending in an email with trace and logs along with as much detailed information to what you were doing that lead up to the crash would be useful. If you had charts, we would like complete information as to the types of questions I asked in my prior post. Thank you.
