    horizontal grid lines interval

in NT6.5 i was able to configure so that a horizontal grid line was formed for every price-level plotted on the Y axis by setting "Horizontal grid line interval (intraday only)" to 1

where is this setting in NT7? or how can i achieve the same result in NT7?

    cheers,

    found this thread:

but it doesn't do the same thing.

setting that panel setting to 1 just shows a single price level, which is not what i'm trying to achieve.

how can i best achieve the NT6.5 look/feel of a line for each price level on an NT7 chart?

    cheers,
    -e

      e-man,

Not sure I follow. Please post a screenshot of what you want from 6.5 to clarify. Thank you.

ninja 6.5 had a setting in chart properties called "horizontal grid lines interval (intraday only)" which defaulted to 0, meaning the spacing was automatic:

notice that there is a line for 1058.25 and 1059.00 but not 1058.00, 1058.50, or 1058.75.

if you change that setting to 1 and hit apply, you get this:

that setting is not (currently) present in ninja 7:

on the other forum thread, it referenced the panel properties. again it defaults to 0:

changing that value to 1 makes it display horizontal lines for 1058.00 and 1059.00:

        as i was about to hit "reply", i thought i would change it to .25 just to see what would happen ... {drumroll} ... {only 5 images per post to be uploaded, so...drumroll continues}

{continuing from previous ... drumroll still going} ... i hit "Apply" and it worked exactly as desired:

          yeah!

so, follow-up question: can we get a "save as default" button on the panel properties so i don't have to change this everytime?

          cheers,

i've given this a bit more thought ...

the old 6.5 logic assumed the interval was equal to 1 tick. the new 7.0 logic assumes we're talking about price, which is why i had to enter .25 instead of 1 since the ES trades in 25c tick intervals.

when i switched my chart to the ZN (which trades in half 1/32nds), i had to enter 0.015625 instead of 0.25 in order to achieve the same thing, namely: lines drawn at each $-mark that relates to each tick.

the problem, perhaps, comes when you were to plot ES and ZN on the same chart (why anyone would do this is beyond me, but it possibly illustrates why this setting is $-based instead of tick-based). this may only be limited to futures, since equities and forex are reduced to a common $-based tick that is standard across all instruments.

nonetheless, my revised suggestion is to enable panel horizontal lines input to be $-based, tick-based, (and perhaps also %-based if your panel axis dictates) ... and, of course, it would be splendid to have ninja remember these settings (eg. "save as default" button).

thanks for your consideration ... i'm loving nt7 ... appreciate all the hard work you guys are doing!

              cheers,

The next beta update will introduce a switch that can be toggled betwee "Ticks" or "Points" for setting the horizontal grid line interval.
