Market Replay Controller - Always on Top

    Hi,

You're probably aware of this but the controller for Market Replay is always on top. This includes when other windows have 'control' (like when adding indicators to a chart) and even when using non-Ninjatrader programs like a web browser.

This is particularly annoying when you open a modal window in NinjaTrader (such as to add an indicator to a chart) and then switch to your web browser. Now if the Market Replay controller is in the way you can't move it without going back to Ninjatrader and closing the modal window.

I was looking for a thread that closely addressed my concern, it's regarding Modal windows.

I am sure I am not alone when I ask why it is necessary to force the help window to be on top of all the other windows? Can we have the option to override this without having to make a shortcut to go directly to the .chm file?

Also, side note, on the DOM, right mouse click, options, I didn't see an option to disable order confirmation? Is that only possible from the Control Panel options of the Main window? If so, it should probably be an option from within the DOM's right mouse click to change settings list.

For example: we might not want order confirmation within the DOM, but would want it as a protection using the order entry tab within control or via a hotkey.

      Thanks,

Thank you for the Help Guide suggestion.

The order confirmation option is a global option. If you want it on for protection you would set it in Tools>Options.

          Josh,

Yep, I mentioned that in my post. I was just thinking it might be a nice feature to be able to kill the confirmation from a right mouse click in the DOM, but because it's Global, I could see why you want it in the Options.

One suggestion / compromise, might be a notification when the message pops up, to have a check box to stop the message from showing or instructions for how to disable?

That might be beneficial and would only require a bool check box or simply adding a hyperlink the text box.

But yes, the help guide would be EXTREMELY helpful. Especially when coding ;-)

Thanks Josh. 7 looks GREAT so far. I pounded the DOM for about 30 minutes straight (on sim) clicking all over the place trying to get it to crash (which I could do in less than 2 minutes on 6.5) and it was laughing at me saying "thank you sir, may I have another".

Would be nice to minimize replay control...

Guys, I just wanted to add my voice to those asking for the ability to minimize the replay control window. I use replay often, and having to frequently move the little control window out of the way is awkward. (It would be much worse if screen space were a problem for me.) Do you have plans to allow us to minimize that window in a future release?

Also, I have had a few times with NT7 replay paused, where scrolling a chart back then pressing F5, then scrolling forward by pressing the right-arrow key caused NT7 to skip ahead. That is, instead of moving ahead bar-by-bar, pressing the right-arrow key would move one bar at a time for a few bars, then skip ahead 50 bars or more. It's purely a minor issue, and resetting replay to cover that time period again has always fixed the problem, but I thought I should mention it.

Thanks for your help. NT7 is doing great for me overall.

                Hello Light,

Unfortunately I am not aware of a minimize feature being implemented however I will forward this to our development team for future consideration.

I attempted to reproduce the skipping of chart bars when using the arrow keys to move the chart forward or backwards.

Can you please answer the following questions so I may attempt with the same settings you had applied:
                • What version of NinjaTrader 7 you currently have installed?
                • What instrument you had loaded?
                • What time interval chart was used?
                • Did you have any Session templates applied?
                • Did you have any indicators applied to your chart?
                • Were there any chart templates applied?

Thanks for forwarding my request to development Christopher. I haven't been able to reliably repeat the skip issue. It has happened to me a few times though, and was robust during those times.

What version of NinjaTrader 7 you currently have installed?
                  7.0.0.12

                  What instrument you had loaded?
                  ES 03-10 (data from DTN)

What time interval chart was used?
                  987 tick (one chart open)

Did you have any Session templates applied?
                  Default 24/7

Did you have any indicators applied to your chart?
                  One complex indicator in development.

Were there any chart templates applied?
Yes -- my default, to produce color choices.

The chart skipped ahead going forward (right-arrow key) and would also stick (stop) at that point when pressing the left-arrow key in an attempt to scroll backwards. Scrolling back via the scroll bar was still possible, and doing so passed the skip point, pressing F5, then trying again produced the same behavior repeatedly over the same bars. The only way to eliminate it that I could determine was to reset the replay period to re-draw those bars. But doing so fixed the problem every time. (Note the skip was not over a market-defined time period, e.g. skipping the over-night session.)

It was a minor inconvenience, but if I see it again, I'll try to take more careful observations.

                  Thanks again for your help,

                  Light
