After bugs are fixed, please add more template functionality

In NinjaTrader 6.5, there was the concept of a template which encapsulated all the settings that a user would see on a chart. This included everything from indicator settings to chart background, width of bars, right hand margin, horizontal line spacing, and so on. It allowed the platform to be fully customizable and allowed the user to tweak their visual environment and have the system remember it each time on startup.

Unfortunately, in NT 7 you guys have kept the concept of indicator templates (which is good), yet you inexplicably dropped template support for chart properties and data series, which were the other 2 components of a user's visual settings. For example, if I want to set bar width, I can't have that in a template. Ditto for horizontal line spacing. Or margin on the right hand chart side. I don't see any technical reason why you cannot include templates for these setting types, the same as for indicators. You already have the ability to "save default" on these dialogs, so you are saving these settings somewhere... it is a short step from that to having custom templates available for the user which they can save and then load from a drop-down list, exactly the same as currently exists for indicators.

I understand why you guys split up the concept of templates into three separate pieces from the way it was in 6.5, but what I don't understand is why you now allow us to only create templates for one of those three pieces (indicators). Once you are done with bug fixes and so on, and if you get the time, it would be extremely helpful if you could add the concept of templates back in for chart properties and data series so we could have the same ability to customize our environment that existed in 6.5.

I second that, this is a very important feature. Please add it to NT 7.
(Started a new thread about it before seeing this one.)

    Thanks

      Thanks
I started a poll about this:

It will be interesting to see what other people think...

        Guys,

The concept is fundamentally different now with new multi-series charts. You need to save it on a per Period Type basis.

This is done in the Format Data Series window, right click on the properties seciton.

You guys are missing the point. I will state it again. I know that we can save a default type. I want to be able to save more than one default type, in essence creating a template type for chart properties, and another template type for data series. There is no reason why you can't do this. We can save indicator templates, we should be able to have different configurations for chart properties and data series as well. Multi-timeframe plots do not hamper this.

I deleted your poll since we do support what you polled on. I realize you are looking for a different behaviour and we will not be able to support that. We went through every possibly iteration of how we could support what you suggested and it was not feasible.

Incorrect. There were many reasons why it was not feasible to do this. See my last post. We truly did not want to give up this level of functionality and tried hard to find a way to do it that made sense but in the end it was not feasilbe. Unfortunately nothing can change here.

Knowing a little about system architecture myself, I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to apply something like different right hand side margins to different charts, regardless of whether one chart was multi-time frame or not. Off the top of my head I can think of a way you could have done stuff like this. But that is irrelevant... you are not going to do it, that much is obvious. Moving on...

Too bad since I really wanted to see this put back in.
