    Merge problem

    Hi Support,

I am on Ninja 6.5.0.10.I closed all charts and from control center tried to merge ES march contract with June contract. It said it did it successfully for tick and minute data. The from dates for March ES, I used were 12/13/07 to 3/12/08

But when I loaded ES June contract, it is showing data only for last few days. So, merge didn't work. In the log,it is giving the following error

Failed to call 'Add' method for period type 'Tick'. Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

I also tried "repair DB" and then retried the merge. It is not working.

    Thanks
    RK

You likely hit a limitations where you tried to merge too large a tick bar series. Please try merging smaller periods.

      Hi Dierk

      Can you please clarify?

I followed the Ninja documentation example, and included the start and end dates of the March contract for the merge. 12/13/07 to 3/12/08, so that the March data is merged into June contract. For previous merges last year it worked fine, when I did something similar, but it was on older Ninja version.

Can you tell me what dates I should be using?

      Thanks
      RK

You need to merge in smaller portions of e.g. a few weeks.

          Hi Dierk

I tried just merging a few weeks, but I get the same error in the log. Note that I do not get error on the screen and it says merge successful. But when I open a tick chart, it just shows data for only few days, which I believe means that merge is not working.

Is this a bug in Ninja 6.5.0.10 version? I know other fellow traders, who are on the official Ninja version, and merge worked fine for them, for the entire period.

          Thanks
          RK

It's a limitation and is dependent on your actuals PC's free RAM. If you would stuff in more RAM you would hit the wall later. You would need to try smaller period until it works for you.

              Hi Dierk,

I am not sure if this is a physical hardware RAM problem. I have 4gb of RAM on my system and Ninja is the only application I run on it. My fellow trader who is running older official Ninja version and merge is working fine for him, has only 2gb of ram.

May be I should downgrade to the older official Ninja version, but I don't like to loose all the nice features in newer version like workspace save features and others.

              Thanks
              RK

'System.OutOfMemoryException' is a clear indication that there is no more RAM available.

                  Hi Dierk

Thanks for the reply. May be there is other problem at my end. I am on Windows vista and .NET version 2.0.50727.312 I am not sure why 4gb of RAM is not sufficient. Is my .NET version stable with Ninja? Let me know if there is anything else you can think of?

On your end, if you have a chance can you please try and see if merge is successful in 6.5.0.10. Do the tick charts show up for atleast 2 to 3 weeks, like say feb20th to march-3rd ?

                  Thanks
                  RK

We again ran ran tests and confirmed that NT6.5 mem usage is less than with NT6 on merging tick data with identical (!) setup (DB, open charts etc.).
