    Tradestation connection problems

    I had orginally installed NT6 and then switched to NT6.5 about a month ago. Everything was working fine, then over the weekend the file (MWRKArea.wrk) in tradestation that held the custom indicators got corrupted forcing me to go back to go back to a version of that file from before I had installed NT. So I have had to reinstall the strategies/functions for NT. But I can't seem to get it to connect to TS for real time data. There are the @ER2.txt files in db\import directory that are updating each minute, but the last data I get in any chart is from 2/29. It seems like it might be reading the data from the old NT6 installation. I seem to recall having to modify a strategy or function in TS pointing it to a different directory and since I lost those strategies and functions, I thought that might be the problem. But if I did modify them I can't see where to modify them now. I have tried reinstalling NT6.5, and even uninstalling both NT6 and NT6.5, then reinstalling 6.5, but I still can't seem to connect.

    I would appreciate any help you could give me.

    Thanks,
    John

    Not sure I follow. We can not provide any advise on how you could recover your TS installation.

    However after you got TS working again you should make sure you have installed latest NT 6.5.0.10 and then import again the NinjaTrader.eld file into TS (please check out the relevant section in the help guide on how to do that).

      Thanks for the response Dierk.

      Tradestation is up and running fine, that wasn't the problem.

      I have installed the latest NT 6.5.0.10 and the Ninjatrader.eld file has been imported. The data files (@ER2.txt etc.) are even being generated in the C:\Documents and Settings\VT\My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\db\import directory. However, NT isn't reading those files. Instead it seems that NT is reading from the C:\Documents and Settings\VT\My Documents\NinjaTrader 6\db\import directory from the previous installation of NT.

      Any suggestions?

        Dierk,

        I forgot to mention one other thing, after I reinstalled NT6.5 and imported the .eld file, When I first tried to open the workspace where I have the charts with the NTExternalFeed and NTDataDownload strategies in them, I received an error message about NTDirect.dll.

          How exactly do you import the files?

            Initial Set Up
            1. NinjaTrader must be installed
            2. Start TradeStation
            3. Select the menu File-->Import/Export EasyLanguage
            4. Select "Import EasyLanguage file (ELD, ELS or ELA)"
            5. Click "Next"
            6. Select the file <NinjaTrader Installation Folder>\bin\AutoTrade\NINJATRADER.ELD"
            7. Click "Next"
            8. Click "Next"
            9. Click "Finish" and confirm any upcoming query box by clicking "OK"

            Connecting
            1. Start NinjaTrader and connect to the "External Data Feed Connection" via the Control Center window, File-->Connect menu
            2. Start TradeStation
            3. Within TradeSation, open a chart window (@ES for example) and via the right mouse click context menu, select "Insert Strategy..."
            4. From the dialog window "Insert Strategies" select "NTExternalFeed" strategy and press the "OK" button
            5. A new window will appear "Format Analysis Techniques & Strategies", press the "CLOSE" button
            6. Within NinjaTrader, select the current ES contract from the instrument list (ES 03-07 for the March 2007 contract as an example) from any of the order entry or chart window

            I usually just double click on an .eld file to import it into TS, but this time I followed the instructions in the manual exactly (like you told me to).
            As I have said, data files are being written, NT doesn not seem to read them or know where to find them. I noticed a commented out line in the NTExternalFeed strategy, that says:
            {
            { "SetUp" needs to be called before the very first NT ATI call }
            if CurrentBar = 1 then begin
            SetUp("remote-machine-name-or-ip", 36973);
            end;
            }
            Could it be that NT is trying to read data from the wrong place, maybe from the prior installation?

              NTExternalDatafeed does not write any files but feeds NT with live data. What's the exact name of TS instrument on your TS chart?

                @ER2 @ES @NQ

                Same ones that worked fine for the previous month, but no longer work.

                I guess the data files are from the NTDataDownload strategy then, but even though I've imported them, they aren't read either.

                  Please don't confuse
                  a) realtime data by NtExternalDataFeed
                  b) data written by TS to a file by NTDataDownload and then imported in NT by Tools->Historical data->Import

                  Please send a mail to "support AT ninjatrader DOT com" so our support staff could give you a call.
