    Workspace Bug

    This morning I tried to open the new beta of NinjaTrader (released on Januaray 17), and Ninja Trader cannot be started properly. It tries to load the 3 workspaces, starting with default, but then leaves me with an error message:

    "Unable to restore workspaces: Die Auflistung wurde geändert. Der Enumerationsvorgang kann möglicherweise nicht ausgeführt werden:"

    I finally managed to retart the program an I discovered that NT is doubling the workspaces, several of them are found twice in the OPEN WORKSPACE WINDOW, I will call them twins.

    Workspaces cannot be deleted.

    Either it reads

    "The workspace "Standard ...." is currently open. You must close it before you delete it".

    or it will delete, but all the deleted workspaces will reappear, sometimes one of the twins will disappear before reappearing.

    If I reopen saved workspaces, I only get the control center, all other information has been lost.

    But Data will be also reloaded for all closed workspaces, so if I am reloading an instrument via selecting it on the market analyzer, also EOD data which is not on my charts of the default workspace will be downloaded from Interactive Brokers unnecessarily.

    It is all a big mess, and I cannot get rid of the workspaces, as they cannot be deleted.

    I close down NT and restart it again. Now I get an error messages when opening NT "Ninja has detected a problem and needs to shut down..."

    So again I try. Second time NT starts without problems. My default workspace opens. I look into the OPEN WORKSPACE MENU. The second of my 3 workspaces has now cloned itself. So they are now five including two pairs of twins.

    I close down NT and restart it again. Now I have 4 workspaces, one twin has died, the other twins are still there . My charts are are corrupted and I will no more waste any time with NT Beta today.

    I decide to reinstall NT, but will send you some of the files for you to check it

    Hi Harry,

    There were some problems with workspaces unfortunately. Please delete the contens of the following folder before restart NT. If this happens again, please let us know.

    My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\workspaces

      Sorry to say it is happening to me too Ray.

      I had ten workspaces open and all was well all day.
      Late in the day I shut the computer down and when I restarted it NT can only load the first 5 spaces. When I switch to 6 and higher it thinks it has switched but nothing is displayed. The check mark that is supposed to appear in the list of open workspaces next to the workspace you have open does not appear at all. Number 6 and higher are not displayed in the list of workspaces that are open. When I try to save workspace 5 as workspace 6 to create a new 6 NT tells me that 6 is open and won't let me do it. It still does not appear in the list of open workspaces.

      Looking in the "Open Workspace" Folder view I have twins listed as Harry says and when I delete them they seem to be gone but opening the "Open Workspace" again I find twins are still there.
      Looking in the Workspaces folder I see my twins are not identical. I have two number 6 one is an XML file and one has no extension.

          Another Workspace bug

          My favourite workspace consists in 5 windows :
          1 15 min Chart
          1 440 ticks Chart
          1 Market Analyzer
          1 T&S
          1 Alert

          As exiting NT, I am asked which workspace I want to save. If i click on the "Yes to all" button as the first workspace name among the three ones I use is displayed, everything works fine.
          If I launch NT then immediately exit and choose "No to all", it is still OK.
          If I launch NT and use Market Replay Connection for a few minutes then exit answering "No to all", I get a message saying "Ninja Trader has detected a problem" but it shows only for a few seconds.
          Furthermore, the next time I launch NT I find out that the first 4 windows have been duplicated on the screen and the Alert window has disappeared.

            Could you send us your error and trace logs after this happens?

              About one hour afterwards, another error happened : NT shut down and asked me to send an e-mail to support with log as an attachment. I did so and got Ticket #62586.

                Thanks for reporting these issues. As you experience a problem with workspaces please mail me to "dierk AT ninjatrader DOT com" this info (e.g. by Help->Mail to support)

                  We isolated this issue. It will be fixed with next update. Thanks for reporting.

                    Yes , you descibed exacetly what is happening to me at present,
                    uninstalling via control panel and re installing does nothing to improve
                    I wish I had read this post first , as unfortunately all my work is gone

                        I discovered one more thing about this issue.
                        The list of open workspaces under File > Workspaces seems to be the cause of at least some of my problems. The list may or may not show a workspace that is actually open. If it does list a workspace selecting it for display sometimes results in a blank screen as if the link between the workspace and it's name in the list is broken.

                        What I discovered is that using the Shift+F3 hotkey seems to reliably toggle through the open workspaces whether or not they are shown in the list.

                            Well unfortunately version 7 didn't fix that workspace bug it's still there and very annoying.

                            I would have lost everything if I wouldn't have made a back-up before, even then I lost 3 charts with a lot of stuff on it.

                            This is becoming frustratring, all I can say is don't touch your workspaces or you will get in trouble for sure.

                              I suggest giving it a fresh start by removing all files in <my documents>/NinjaTrader6.5/workspaces.

                              If you then encounter a problem please report to us by providing problem description (e.g. screenshot) and additional info like traces and logs. Thanks

                              Also: copying workspaces backups in will restore the original problem.
