i have updated to 6.5 without transfering information from 6. Just so i could test it "out of the box". I have a live account and still yet to trade. i still have the same problem i had in 6 trying to use NT with gain. trading off the dom and the single entry works fine. when back testing all dollars come out multiplied by .0001 . I am on a new machine, dual core, and windows vista. HELP! I love the program but am baffled by this problem. it makes it impossible to test any strategy. you should be able to see for yourself loading the currency pairs as provided by NT to default and then optimizing any of the sample trading strategies provided by NT. Could it be vista?

Thank you for your time gentlemen,
    Howard

Please look at the 6.5 Help Guide section -

Automated Trading > Running Live NinjaScript Strategies > Running FX Strategies

(I think that is the section)

Let me know if this may explain what you are experiencing.

The first thing I did once I install NT 6.5 was to try the Strategy Analyzer. Then for the next several hours I puzzeled over why my strategy.. which ran under NT 6.. was not producing any results. Well it was, but I had it set to currancy and my quanity was defaulted to 1... so no measureable results... anyway I rant on...

I will assume there was a very good reason to make this kind of change. My concern is the risk of makeing sure it is 100,000 in backtest and market replay, but then set back to 1 for live - would not be a fun mistake to make.

So my real question.. can I programaticly detect which I am on? I could use "Historical" for backtest.. but not market replay. Is there something else I could us to determine if I need to set quanity to 1 or 100,000?

          Thanks

              Ray,

Thanks - I have read the suggested help section...a couple of times.

Let me restate my question. In the help page it states:

MAKE SURE that you adjust your strategy's order quantity from 100,000 to 1 to ensure you are trading the correct quantity.
I don't consider it wise to require a manual process for something that could have such significant negative results. Does NT provide any NinjaStcript variable/value that can be used to determine if my strategy is running in Strategy Analyzer, Simulated Data Feed, or Market Replay vs. Live or Sim101?

"Historical" will not work here becuase, as I understand it, Historical also treats Market Replay as real time data during forward testing.

So the only option I see here is to provide the order quanity as one of my strategy parameters (with a default of 1).

Does my question make more sense now? Any suggestions?

              Thanks again.

I'm just a user but i use a strategy parameter i call TESTING. Based on this parameter i have found there are a number of things i want done different when testing and trading live. like quantity.

Unfortunately there is not such a variable. I understand the limitation but unfortunately there is no elegant solution at this time.

                    Ray,

Thanks. There is almost as much relief in being understood as there is in finding the answer. I appreciate your extra time on this one.

I think ohowie's suggestion to just have a generic "testing" parameter sounds best as I can keep that logically seperate from the "Historical" varable.

Or another approach is to write/read from a "config" file. I will explore this as well.

If anybody else has any ideas... I assume I am not the only one who will ask this question...

                    Thanks to all.
