Is there a quick way to cancel or stop a running backtest in Strategy Analyzer?
Let's say I accidentally started a 1 year backtest with Tick Replay checked, it will take too long so I want to cancel and backtest without it. How can I do this? There are no buttons in the Strategy Analyzer that let you stop a backtest while it's running.Tags: None

Hello jaybedreamin,
For a backtest there is no cancel button because its one inline test. An optimization you can cancel using the cancel button because its multiple tests. If you accidently ran a test that will take a long time you can close the window which would also cancel the test. There are otherwise not any ways you can manually stop a single backtest.JesseNinjaTrader Customer Service

When running a huge optimization, I have the entire workspace freezing for several minutes at a time. Maybe it is using too many threads or the window refresh thread is being used for optimization. For reference my CPU has 32 threads, it is a 5950x. Unable to abort the optimization because click events are not passed while the window is frozen, I'm supposed to catch it during the 5 seconds it updates.
Edit: It is also possible the freezing only occurs during the historical data request. But assuming ninjatrader always caches historical data, this isn't the case for me as I have freezes testing the same instruments again.
Edit 2: It's probably much easier to simply force close ninjatrader, but first you must get into the habit of saving your workspace before running a long optimization!Last edited by nathanfranke; 04-08-2023, 09:35 PM.

My current remedy is balance something heavy on the mouse on the abort button, wait for the click to register, then take the weight off.

Wow. That sounds like something that NinjaTrader possibly could fix by reserving at least a tiny slice of CPU for the user interface thread.

Quite simple to remedy: Estimate the number of iterations and prompt the user if they wish to continue processing. Could give an option in settings to bypass the prompt for those that do not wish to be bothered with it.
