8.1.4.1 update not saving time frame on strategy analyzer
I upgraded to version 8.1.4.1 and now the strategy analyzer is not saving the chosen time frame when duplicating in a new window or after saving / closing and reopening a workspace or after recompiling a strategy - this last one is particularly frustrating. I use a 1600 tick time frame and it keeps defaulting back to a 1 minute time frame.Last edited by zagier; 01-15-2025, 05:13 AM.Tags: None

Hello zagier,
The issue would be compiling.
When compiling this will terminate the instances used to populate the Strategy Analyzer and will reload new cloned instances.
If you would like your settings to remain after compiling, save a default template.
After setting the settings, click template > click save > click Save as Default.
Note, as long as your are not compiling, the Strategy Analyzer settings will be retained when duplicating the window or closing and opening the workspace.
Below is a link to a video that demonstrates.

Hello thafuz,
This has been the case since NinjaTrader 8 was in beta back in 2016.
Another tip that's somewhat releated, OnWindowCreated() and OnWindowDestroyed() from any addons will also run when you compile. This allows any menu items to be properly updated.Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service

This continues to happen even after saving a default template again. Continually defaulting timeframe back to 1 minute. It did not occur until this latest update. Can you get a bug posted, or see if you can at least recreate it?
Occurring on just leaving the window open for awhile too (I ran an optimization and when it was done it had changed to 1 min even though I ran on 1600 tick)

I see the video, thank you. The default template is helping in that scenario, however I'm still finding scenarios where it occurs. I'm still confused because this never happened before the latest update.
It just now occurred again on an optimization run (that took 1.5hrs) where I had it set to 1600 tick, changed some of the parameter ranges, and then when the run was done it showed 1 min again and it had run on 1 min timeframe instead of the 1600 tick. This has happened a few times over the past two weeks, I haven't narrowed down the exact scenario to replicate the behavior though.

Hello zagier,
From my experience compiling has always cloned new instances to populate the Strategy Analyzer drop-drown since NinjaTrader 8 was first developed.
If you would like to test the previous version, you can download this from the Account Portal.

Did you compile?
Can you reproduce this with the Sample MA Crossover included with NinjaTrader?Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service

I will look at trying to get a solid set of reproduction steps for you. It still just seems to happen randomly, where I'm off writing code on my other machine, look at a chart, and then come back to run a strategy analyzer or optimization again only to realize it had yet again swapped to 1 min.
For now I will roll back to 8.1.3.1 in my dev environment. Quickly scanning the release notes for 8.1.4.1, I don't think I need any of the new features, although I do see some bug fixes on strategy analyzer, so I'll refer back to this too if need be.

I don't even have to open and close any windows for the issue to arise. I can just rerun a backtest on an already opened strategy analyzer window and it keeps reverting to 1 min and the hourly template keeps changing.

Hello burmaz,
"The hours template selected also keeps changing every time I run a back test."
This has been reported to our development.
See the post linked below.
This thread is about the data series interval (time frame) reverting to default.
So far I have not reproduced the interval changing, but I may not have the correct steps.
zagier, please let me know if there are different steps than what I showed in the video that I should take to result in this behavior.Chelsea B.NinjaTrader Customer Service

In addition to the reset to 1 min like what the OP is experiencing, it also will occasionally randomly reset to other previously used time frames. The issue is pretty disruptive in my work flow to rerun backtests over and over and to have to catch when ninjatrader randomly changes the time frame.
I have since reverted to the previous NT version b/c this bug is too disruptive for my uses.
