Custom Candles Show Up as Dashes
I use custom candles made by a very reputable NT8 developer, but for more data-hungry instruments like the ES and NQ, the bars show up as horizontal dashes. I checked with the developer, and they've never seen this before. The developer had me delete some of the cached data, and the bars were working pre-market. However, once the cash market opened at 9:30 EDT, the candles turned back into dashes. Has anyone ever had this experience?Tags: None

Hello szell215,
Thank you for the message.
When using the default NinjaTrader data series, seeing dashes on the chart would normally imply that you are looking at a contract with low volume.- If there is no price movement, then there is nothing causing the bar to grow so it just appears as a line at the market price for that time.
You could try switching to a different Contract for the same instrument and test if it loads in looking more like you'd expect.
If you switch that same chart to something like a 1-minute data series from the 3rd party bar type, does it load in as expected or show little bars too?- If the chart loads in as expected when using a Minute chart but it doesn't when using the 3rd party bar type, you would need to reach back out to the developer to continue investigating why it isn't displaying the bars as expected.
- If the minute chart also has little bars and shows minimal movement, that is most likely due to low volume on that instrument and implies that many of the traders have moved to the next contract.
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.

This is not a low-volume issue; in fact, all the lower-volume instruments show the custom candles working correctly. This issue persists only during market hours on ES, NQ, YM and RTY. The chart will continue to scroll as the market unfolds, but instead of the candles showing up as candles, they show up as dashes. See below, working bars vs. bars that aren't printing correctly.

Hello szell215,
Thank you for the update.
Since the only charts that are appearing that way are the ones using the 3rd party Bar Type, you will need to reach back out to the developer and continue working with them to identify why the bars are behaving that way and what needs to be done to resolve it moving forward.- NinjaTrader didn't create this 3rd party bar type so we do not have any further documentation or information on why it would behave that way or what would need to be done to make it plot as expected.
If the developer is unsure of why that is happening, they can reach out to our support team directly for further help looking into the behavior. Once they get it figured out, they could share that information with you.
Please let us know if we may provide any further assistance.
