Can't change EMA value
I'm having a problem with a EMA crossover strategy. I created User defined inputs EMA9 and EMA39 with those periods and 15 min intervals. I set up the Strategy and it looks right as far as this newbie can tell (I followed along with the video), however when I put it into my 15 min chart and run it the EMA9 changes to 15 period and tests with that value and puts a 15 EMA on the chart. I'm not able to change it back so that it stays at 9. How can I prevent that from changing and keep the 9 value I want? I'm hoping I attached two screen captures.

Hello Bkout,
Thank you for your post.
You need to change the default value under the "user defined inputs" page of the Strategy Wizard.
In the strategy parameters, you can also change the 15 to a 9 to change the period.
You need to change the chart time period from a 15 min chart to whatever time period you want before you set up the strategy.Ray S.NinjaTrader Customer Service

RJ, Thanks for the response however I think something else is going on as I have the value set to 9 see below. When I change the 15 value to 9 in the Parameters area it pops back to 15 as soon as I click in another field. BTW using your existing SMA crossover I was able to change the SMA period values and have it hold. Strangely enough if I change the EMA9 to a value larger than 15 it holds,, but any value less than 15 pops back to 15 --- weird!

philxhong,
I am not sure what you are trying to do. The condition you are outlining right now takes the EMA(5) of 3 bars ago and compares it to the SMA(15) of the current bar. If a cross above of such a condition happens then it will trade. If not then it will not.Josh P.NinjaTrader Customer Service

philxhong,
You need to understand what 3 bars ago means. 3 bars ago means it will look at the value of 3 bars ago counting from the current bar. You look at the 4th latest bar. It does not mean trade 3 bars into the past. It evaluates the condition based on the data from that bar and makes the trade on the current bar. You cannot trade in the past. If you wanted to trade back then you need to place the trade back then.Josh P.NinjaTrader Customer Service
